Thanks for putting out the truth on such scum as John Kerry. We certainly
don't need a liar, a cheat, as is manifested in the form of John Kerry. In my
opinion, he is not a veteran...he is a traitor to his own people...this is not
the mark of a veteran...not a GOOD veteran.

Hi, I have many family in the military. I am a Christian who voted for Bush
in 2000. I will not be voting for him again in 2004. He & his administration
represent only those with great wealth & certainly do not represent Christianity
as I know it. As a recovering alcoholic I recognize him as a dry drunk who is
lying to the hard working people of this good country. I worry about my loved

more to do with the financial interests of big corporations.

I noticed that some replies in response to Don's comments have been deleted

these comments were deleted because they directly questioned some of Don's
assertions that were not true. While I respect & encourage everyone's right to

oppose Kerry refuse to look rationally at Bush's record which is.

preparation for the election. I have heard the left and cannot find much beyond
the talk. Dont get me wrong, I do believe George and his people have tripped
along the way but he has done what needed to get done. Is all this worth
fighting for? Do other people deserve the opportunities to have someone stand up
for them? A president needs a congress to pass bills, and advisors to keep up on
all the issues. A President cannot do everything himself. I dont want him to
claim he can fix everything either. I want him to say what he stands for and
through his actions, We can see how well he sticks to his "beliefs." If you
cannot stick to those than what good are you. I prefer another 4 years under

served in Vietnam, 1966 - 1967 and have always been proud of that service and I completed
my 12 month tour, not 4 months. I have been keeping up with the democratic nomination

ring circus. All the canidates played both ends against the middle. None of them had, or
have, any constructive ideas on what they would do different from President Bush. Kerry
has been a master at "Bush Bashing". It seems now that when GWB is loading up to
give him his due, Kerry suggests that they stick to the issues. Thank God George W. Bush
was our president on 9/11. If it has been either of the democratic hopefuls we would be

I appreciate your sentiments on John Kerry, but as proud as you are of President Bush,
I find him as much of a liar as John Kerry. I will not be voting for any of the Democrats

exercising my right to vote for whom I feel would make a good candidate regardless of
whether that person wins or not because it is my RIGHT as a member of the US. I support
your opinions on Kerry and Bush, even as I cannot agree with them, but I will support your

Don wrote "How did we who served in Vietnam suddenly become cold-blooded killers,
torturers, and rapists, of the ilk of the Nazi SS or the Taliban? Most of us were American
soldiers who grew up idolizing John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and all the other heroes. That was
why I volunteered." I have many many friends who have said the same thing about going
volunteering in Vietnam because of heros like John Wayne. They regret being so naive,
after all John Wayne was in a movie & Vietnam was no movie. Many of these Veterans
came home with a very different viewpoint of the war then when they volunteered. Many
oppossed the war when they returned. Many had horror stories to tell about what they did
or what they saw done that are similar to what Kerry quoted soliders saying in his
testimony. You ought to consider yourself very fortunate if you did not experience some of
the horrors that some of the Vets I know did. It is naive to brand someone a liar just
because you did not experience the same things.

Don, Bush hardly released his records voluntarily... it was after much political

Why is there no one who remembers serving with Bush in the National Guard during the time
he says he fufilled his duty. I agree with you that Kerry should also release his records.

of my brothers, an Infantryman was badly wounded in the Ardennes. I cringe when I think

so much criticism of kerry & clinton... what about our current commander in
chief who received preferential treatment from beginning to (early) end of his 'military
service'? how many of you were given such red carpet treatment? Bush graduated from Yale
in May of 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War when half a million young American men
were fighting for their country and dying at the rate of 350 per week. He had no desire
"to be an infantry guy as a private in Vietnam," he said. Bush did not join the
full time active duty military. Instead, he chose to enlist for "weekend
warrior" duty in the Air National Guard, where he could fulfill his military
obligation far away from the risk of combat and pursue his civilian career, including
working in several Republican Senate campaigns. And when his application form asked about
an overseas assignment, he checked "do not volunteer." Competition for the few
openings in the National Guard was intense, and there was a waiting list of 100,000
nationally at the time. Bush took the Air Force officer and pilot qualification tests
& scored 25%, the lowest possible passing grade on the pilot aptitude portion. On his
application form, he listed his "background qualifications" as "none."
But despite the waiting list, his low score and his lack of qualifications, Bush was given
a highly-coveted spot and was sworn in for a six-year commitment, taking a solemn oath to
protect and defend the U.S. Constitution and the United States of America. Speaker of the
House in Texas at the time, Ben Barnes, admitted under oath last year that he had received
a request from a longtime Bush family friend, Sidney Adger of Houston, to help Bush get
into the Air National Guard. Barnes further testified that he contacted the head of the
Texas Air National Guard, Brig. Gen. James Rose, to pass along Adger's request. After he
completed only six weeks of basic airman training, Bush received a commission as a second
lieutenant in the Texas Air National Guard. This was by means of a 'special appointment'.
This normally required eight full semesters of college ROTC courses or eighteen months of
military service or completion of Air Force officer training school. While Bush's father
was being re-elected to Congress from Houston, Bush was promoted to 1st Lieutenant by
Brig. General Rose, the same man who got Bush into the Texas National Guard at the request
of the Bush family friend. Beginning sometime after May of 1971, Bush stopped living up to
his sworn obligation to the Texas Air National Guard and thereby his country. By May of
1972, he was credited with only 22 flight duty days, 14 days short of the minimum 36 days
he owed the Guard for that year. Bush suddenly disappeared from the skies altogether near
the start of his fourth year. From that point on, Bush never flew again, in spite of the
fact that he still had two full years remaining of his six-year pilot service commitment.
And on May 15, 1972, Bush simply "cleared this base" according to a written
report by one of his two Squadron supervising officers, Lt. Col. William D. Harris Jr. On
August 1, 1972 George W. Bush was summarily suspended from flying duties. Why? A
pilot's completion of his six-year obligation is especially important because of the heavy
investment the Government makes to provide jet fighter pilots with two full years of
active duty training. In today's money, the US Government paid close to a million dollars
to train 1st Lt. Bush in a highly complex supersonic aircraft. Chief of the National Guard
Bureau in Washington DC, confirmed the suspension of 1st Lt. George W. Bush from flying
status. This written confirmation cites an earlier August 1, 1972 verbal order of the TX
147th Group's Commanding Officer that suspended and grounded Bush from flying duty for
"his failure to accomplish annual medical examination." Why would a physical
exam present a problem for 1st Lt. Bush? In April 1972 the same month that Bush
"gave up" flying all the overseas and stateside military services began
subjecting a small random sample in their ranks to substance abuse testing for alcohol and
drugs. Is it unreasonable to raise the possibility that 1st Lt. Bush was suspended from
flying as a direct or indirect consequence of substance abuse In the Air National Guard,
expensively trained pilots are not casually suspended. There is normally a Flight Inquiry
Board, which exercises the military chain of command's obligation to insure due process.
The punishments could have included temporary or permanent 'grounding,' a career-damaging
letter of reprimand, forced reenlistment in the US Army with active duty in Vietnam, or a
less-than honorable discharge. In fact, there is no evidence now in the public domain that
a Flight Inquiry Board was convened to deal with Bush's official reclassification to a
non-flying, grounded status. Bush's misconduct in regards to "his failure to
accomplish annual medical examination" was handled like everything else in his
military service: aided and abetted by powerful family connections with total disregard
for the needs of the military as well as Bush's solemn oath. The questions about Bush's
unfulfilled service record do not end with his suspension and effective grounding on
August 1, 1972. The central question for the remaining two years is whether he fully and
legitimately completed his original six-year attendance obligation to the Texas Air Guard
and his country, as sworn under oath upon his enlistment, or if he simply dodged his
remaining non-flying duties. On September 5, 1972, more than three months after his
transfer request to an inactive Alabama unit was refused, Bush was finally ordered to
start serving three months in an active but non-flying administrative Guard unit, the
187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in Montgomery, Alabama, for four certain duty days in
October and November. Despite this direct written order, there is no official notation in
his service record that Bush ever showed up for any of this duty. Interceptor Magazine, a
monthly official National Guard publication distributed nationwide, ran advertisements
asking for anyone to step forward who remembered seeing Bush on duty. This inquiry came up
empty-handed. When the three-month term of his apparently unfulfilled temporary order in
Alabama ended in November 1972, Bush returned home to Houston Texas until the fall of
1973. However, he again did not report in person for non-flying duty to his parent Texas
111th Squadron during this whole time. Still, Bush reappeared on the Texas Air Guard's
radar screen in May 1973. Bush was ordered to attend nine certain duty days in person
during Summer Camp at Ellington AFB between May 22 and June 7. But 1st Lt. Bush did not do
so making him apparently absent contrary to a specific written order for a second
time in less than a year. On October 1, 1973 fully eight months short of his full
six-year service obligation and scheduled discharge on May 26, 1974 Bush was
prematurely discharged with honors from the Texas Air Guard, in spite of his failure to
report in person for any for duty over the prior 18 months

Many of you here need to educate yourselves about current affairs. The evidence that
9/11 was preventable is mounting. The Republican appointed by Bush to investigate 9/11 is
now saying so. The Bush administration needed 9/11 to happen in order to allow them to
invade other countries (see PNAC documents). And now they are using footage from this
tragedy to promote their reelection efforts. Those who say the enemy is within our borders
are right. Those who say that criminals are at large are right. Far right inside the Bush
administration. "CBS) For the first time, the chairman of the independent commission
investigating the Sept. 11 attacks is saying publicly that 9/11 could have and should have
been prevented, reports CBS News Correspondent Randall Pinkston. "This is a very,
very important part of history and we've got to tell it right," said Thomas Kean.
"As you read the report, you're going to have a pretty clear idea what wasn't done
and what should have been done," he said. "This was not something that had to
happen." Appointed by the Bush administration, Kean, a former Republican governor of
New Jersey, is now pointing fingers inside the administration and laying blame.
"There are people that, if I was doing the job, would certainly not be in the
position they were in at that time because they failed. They simply failed," Kean
said. "(CBS) For the first time, the chairman of the independent commission

I served in the 60's, though I did not go to Nam. USN... It is sad to see where we have
gone as a nation. I am not certain we will survive the next 100 years if we continue down
the path we seem to have taken. Criminals have more rights than anyone. Freedom of speach
has been perverted into something our founding "fathers" would have swept away
in an instant. Liberals think God is a bad word and should be banned, yet "f.u."
is ok... Freedom is not free. If we want to keep our country we are going to have to fight
for it. Any the enemy is not aways outside our own borders. Think of where we'd be today
if "Gore No More" was in charge on Sept 11th. Thank GOD for George W. Bush. And
thank God for all the wonderful people in the United States Military, who stand at the

from '71 to '73. mr. Kerry signed our missing and captured to certain death. I owe the
POW/MIA personnel all that I am, and all that I have. As long as I live they will not be
forgotten. God bless those who never came back, all who served. God bless the U.S.A and
her leader. Never forget, never surrender and VOTE!!!

Thanks to you and your fellow Vets for providing the information that I need. I did not
serve in the military, but if I had it to do over again. I look to those would have served
to provide me a lot of guidance among in choosing the leaders of my country. The first and
foremost task of the Preseident is the Commander in Chief of our troops. The very people
who protect our freedoms and help those who suffer around the world. I do not want someone
who tells lies and manipulates truths for his own political gain to be making decisions
about my country. Please continue to write and encourage everyone to voice their opinion
as this is the only way thr truth can be shown. As we can see, the current "mass
media" does not cater to the truth...the truth must be found in each and every
American. Thank you to everyone who has served and to the protectors of the truth.

I was not selected for Vietnam. I consider myself fortunate and extremly grateful to
those who served in Vietnam. I read and study the War's History and Legacy. Along with our
other Wars for Freedom, our conduct painted the only impression the Vietnamese saw of our
Democratic Free way of Life. Your actions and deeds of Kindness, Humanity, and Concern

Don, Great article! Im been around the military just about all my adult life and
still support soldiers around the world. I too like most of your readers am a retired
Veteran. Vietnam was just about over when I enlisted into the Infantry in 1973.
Nonetheless, for all of you that had to endure the political madness of that war and our
own traders here abroad, you are still heroes in my eyes. This country owes you big! Both
my sons are serving this great country on active duty now and one just returned from
Iraq. The other one is on his way shortly. Soldiers understand soldiers and there is no
greater bond among human beings. We are asked to endure many situations that most only
read about. I dont like John Kerry and I appreciate your insight to his tenure in
service and in political office. I am fully confident that the American people will
re-elect President Bush and well have another great four years. The right thing is
not always the most popular thing and our president has had some tough road laid in front

served and are serving for the continued success of this great nation!

Don - I came here becasue of your editorial. While I was thinking those thoughts, and
putting my feeble words into my sphere of influence, you actuated them and created a word
picture of john kerry that is right on the mark. I have communicated my distaste for the
senator from massachussetts. hanoi john, indeed. I am a sole surviving son, my 19 year old
USMC brother, Kevin died at a place called Cigar Island on Mar 27, 1967. There is no way I
could accept kerry's description of the ugly americans he claims to have known and seen.
His 4 months "in country" with 3 purple hearts and no scars to show for any of
the 3 - and his recruiting of "vietnam vets" to work his campaign ? the guy is
shameless. You, SIR are a great patriot to see through that smokescreen, and your words,
along with the comments of others, will be the demise of this bastard's presidential
adventure. I like your web site. If you get a chance, take a peek at the TLCB (Thailand,
Laos, Cambodia) Brotherhood web site. We still support kids and school projects in

William Kerns, USMC, 1952 & 1953. My wife and I spent many hours and years working
to get action on the POW-MIA issue. Still are active. Our local U.S. Reps. and Senators
were of great help. Finally we got our day on the national podium. The Senate scheduled
full fledged hearings. We were glued to the television. It did not take
too long to see the way the wind was blowing. I had my gut full when that Kerry tried to
humiliate Garnett Bell regarding the Hanoi Hilton. Bell told him there was a basement
under the building and Kerry not only scoffed at him. he brought in experts to testify it
was impossible due to the land structure and water table. Too late proved it was proved
Bell was correct. Too my mind that was a deliberate action to discredit
Bell and Kerry's goal was to sidetrack any progress. Witness the female special counsel he
hired. I retch every time I see that man's face or hear his name.
Everybody's hard work down the drain.

Don, I read your letter passed on to me by a fellow former SF team member. I disagree
with most of your claims about VN and what was experienced under battle by SF troops and
their LLDB and CIDG counterparts. This SF witnessed atrocities, was a participant in some,
still feel the guilt about them and cannot cast any aspersions on those that also failed
to honor themselves and our country. You seem to be naive about your experiences, but
please understand that you cannot possibly speak for all SF and their VN service. You need
to get more facts before you take a position of leadership and resposnibility. Kerry might
not make the best next president, but he is miles ahead of GWB and Cheney, who NEVER

Thanks for your comments on Dennis Pragers program this morning. I can think of
nothing more important for the safety and wellbeing of this great country than defeating
John Kerry in the polls this November. The entire Democratic campaign to date has been
nothing but a protracted slander of our President, not just by Kerry but also by all the
Democratic candidates. Its really beyond me to understand how anyone voted into
public office, and a holder of the public trust, can be so thoroughly irresponsible and
dishonest, and more than irresponsible, reckless and foolhardy with the safety of the
nation. At best, Kerry doesnt understand the issues. At worst, he does understand
and doesnt care about the country, only about occupying the Oval Office. George Bush
has proven himself to be a serious man for the serious times in which we live. I give
thanks to God that Mr. Bush was in office on 9/11 and not Al Gore. I am proud to be an
American, proud of the men and women who serve this country in its Armed Forces, and proud
to call the Commander and Chief of those Armed Forces my President. Like it or not, the
U.S. is now the only surviving superpower. Whatever lies ahead for this country, our
military will play an important role. Our people in uniform richly deserve all the respect
and resources a grateful nation can bestow. I think President Bush believes that. I never
want to see our Military treated the way it was under the Clinton administration. On that
issue alone, it is clear to me that John Kerry is not the man we want in the White House.

I salute you sir! And I don't salute anyone without merit. Your editorial was forwarded
to me and I agree 100% with everything you have to say in it. I, also, am a Vietnam Vet
who is VERY tired of being labeled a baby killer...or any other derogatory name
"they" come up with. There were thousands of us who served with honor and came
home to face countless accusations and insults. Many of us, to this day, hide the fact
that we were in Vietnam. Some of our brothers won't even talk about Nam. While it's true
there were "bad apples", the good soldiers prevailed and way outnumbered the
ones who made us look bad in the world's eyes. That WE lost the war is the greatest
insult, when we know that the war was lost by people like Hanoi Jane and members of
congress ( or running for ) are truly responsible for not letting us win. Again... I
salute you sir....and your wife. I pray for a speedy recovery for her and a speedy
recovery for all of us Vietnam Vets who have been over critiqued for our service to our

I am a former Marine and my husband is a retired Marine. Just wanted to stop and give
our support and tell you to keep up the great work. I forwarded your opinion to all of our
friends, military and non military. We support President Bush vehemently and will do all
we can to get him relected. God Bless You both and Semper Fi!

Point man, Alpha Company 4/31 196th LIB, 23rd Inf Division, I Corp,70-71. It's
regretable that Vietnam veterans have to be drug through the mud, again, for the benefit
of one mans ego. Until recently the public only knew us as drug addicts, homeless, and
crazy, never a kind word. Only our families knew the truth. I just retired as a sergeant
after 28 years in law enforcement and still tear up at the national anthem. Senator Kerry
is here to drag us down again, but he can't take my patriotism. Thanks John. You should be
proud.
